Our Community
Uganda is broken down in very small communities called villages. These villages are headed and run by the Local chair persons who ensures that everyone living the community is known. Our Village is called Nganjo. Most people in this community are not educated and the main source of income activies are stone quarring, gardening and fishing. People in our community live together and look out for each other at all times. We do share a lot and understand one another and just as the saying goes in Africa "A child is brought up be the community" meaning everyone is responsibe for the up bringing of children in terms of discipline and morals.
Here in a short movie, the children will show you a glimps of the village.
Our Team
Esther and Janet
Known as Esi and Jan are the founders and ladies behind the wounderful ideas to see that whispers of Love is able to reach out to many and create positive impact in ther community Namulanda through bringing education to the unprivileged children.
Betty (Mama Maria)
Mama Maria plays a big roll in social work ensuring childrens protection against any form of violence through making occasional home visits and also the children overall well being.
Mama Agi and Jaaja Goretty
The two lovely ladies have dedicated themselves to volunteer and cook for the chillden both lunch and breakfast during their time at the library.
Teacher Stella
During our satuday program, we host children from the entire community and with the help of Teacher Stella, we are able to run the program activities smoothly .
Volunteers
From all around the globe, people are freely coming to us to dedicate their time for the children.
Using the famous international platform Workaway, we have been welcoming volunteers for years now, and keep in touch with some of them who sometimes even come back to visit us and the children. Volunteers are bringing us a lot, and involve themselves depending on their preferences. Often, they manage one group of children and teach them basics, but what is really amazing is the love and attention they offer the students. It is a great opportunity to broaden minds and learn from each other. You will find below reviews from volunteers that are available on Workaway website as well.
Testimonies
Testimony from Eva and Claire
How to describe our time with Essie and Jane better than a purely amazing, moving, life-changing experience ! They welcomed us into their home like family, and gave us the opportunity of being a useful part of their meaningful project. We had the chance of getting introduced to the members of their community, teach the children about reading, counting, writing and most of all to give them attention, love, and respect. This small organisation is really bringing a lot to the children and family involved, and we wish they can keep this beautiful energy to expand and flourish to a more and more strong and sustainable project. Volunteers have an interesting and paramount part to play, as everyday life support (help with managing the kids, administrative work, do their part with household chores if they feel like it), but as foreigners we give and receive the present of a deep and stimulating cultural exchange, broadening minds and opening new opportunities for both hosts and workwayers. This was our first trip and destination into Africa and Uganda, and Essie & Jane took really great care of us, explaining, escorting, teaching, introducing, making us feeling comfortable and accepted. From our perspective, the mission they gave themselves has such a pure and powerful meaning, and the way they progress every day towards it deserves our most enthusiastic and respectful regards. Maybe one day we will see each other again, in the meantime please feel free to stay in touch if we can help in any way. Much love to you girls, and our huge thanks.
Testimony from Moli
I love everything about this place! From the kids especially, to the food, environment, people and many more. This is my first workaway experience and i am so so grateful and thankful i met the 2 beautiful sisters Esi and Jan.
They ensured my safety and well being throughout my stay in their lovely house. They have the biggest heart in serving the community and the people around them.
My heart is super full from this trip and i really cannot wait to come back here again.
Thank you for the beautiful experience!
If you love kids, this is definitely the place for you :)Testimony from Juul
What an amazing experience! I have stayed for a month with the twins, and I am grateful for every minute. It was my first workaway experience, and I can't imagine how it could have been better.
The twins are two amazing, sweet, and caring women who have welcomed me with open arms. Upon arriving in Namulanda they made sure I felt at home, and together with the Mama's they take great care of you. The house was comfortable, and the village is beautiful. Cooking with the twins was always a fun experience, where we have learned a bunch from one another!
I had some experience with teaching, but not too much with kids of that age. The twins give you every freedom to figure out which methods work best for you, and where you feel most comfortable. It has been a blessing to teach, play and be around the kids. It's incredible to see how eager they are to learn, how respectful and grateful they are, and how quickly they grow! I am grateful that I was able to contribute a little to the enormous impact the school and the twins have on the kids, and the whole village.
Besides the school activities we had plenty of time to see the beautiful country of Uganda. In my first weekend I had the honour of joining a traditional Ugandan wedding. Furthermore we did trips to national parks, Entebbe, Kampala, Jinja, and so on! The twins are great tour guides, and will show you incredible places you would never find as a tourist yourself.
